Don’t give up on a dream just because it will take a long time. That time is going to pass either way.
Whether it’s getting in better shape, finishing a project, or learning a skill, just about the worst reason you can tell yourself for not starting is that it will take too long. If you calculate that your goal weight will take 8 months to reach, that your project could take years, or that a skill will take weeks to master, let that motivate you rather than discourage you. The thing about time is that those weeks, months, and years are going to come and go whether you sat on your butt or worked your butt off.
Do you want to wake up in 8 months and realize that you could be at your goal weight today if you had only started when you first had the idea? Do you want to look around in a few years and see all of your old school peers working on amazing projects that you’re left out of? Somewhere out there, someone is getting better; better at doing YOUR dream job.
Maybe you’ve slacked the last few months or even years. The worst reaction to that realization is to get depressed about it and stay in your slump. It’s NEVER too late to start. Don’t let the cliche-ness of that statement dull its impact. It’s never too late to start. There is a saying that says, if you want shade, the best time to plant a tree is yesterday. The second best time is today.
[For example, I slacked on this Motivational Monday post and did it on Wednesday instead of waiting until next week lol]
